About Carly
Carly Schneider is considered an expert in her Dental and Orofacial Myology and Myofunctional Therapy fields. If you do your research you will find that Carly is the first and only Certified Orofacial Myologist to practice in Marin County and San Francisco. Carly had also practiced in San Diego before moving to San Francisco area. Carly, valedictorian of her class, has over 25 years of experience dealing with the tongue, swallow, facial muscles and teeth. She has also expanded her education into many other areas. Carly works with correcting Reflexed Behaviors that are misguided. Carly looks at cranial muscle and cranial nerve balance and growth. With her educational backgrounds in Dentistry, Acupuncture, Orofacial Myology and Cranial Nerves, Carly observes and understands the Autonomic Nervous System and the reflexes. She looks at tone, coordination and neuro-muscular symmetry of the facial muscles along with the swallow. She understands proper breathing. She is considered a breathing specialist in the sleep apnea realm. Carly has been part of a sleep apnea clinic team for 6 years and works with many clinics, including Stanford. Her work has now been proven in the sleep apnea world to be effective in reducing AHI numbers by 50% in adults and 62% in children. Carly does a Cranial Nerve Assessment and integrates this therapy where needed. She works with all ages looking at the tongue’s movement and how the tongue is attached to the floor of the mouth. Other important areas of focus are: habit elimination (i.e. thumb sucking, pacifier, bottle feeding or lip biting), frenums, the swallow, tongue rest, narrow palates, proper teeth alignment, airway issues, jaw irritations, position, and growth, TMD (Temporal Mandibular Joint Disorder), speech, digestion, proper chewing and skeletal posture. The nervous system controls muscles, and facial and tongue muscles guide the bone in cranial development. When someone swallows incorrectly, or has a facial imbalance, this person adapts by over stressing some facial muscles and underusing other muscles. The over contracted muscles can move the cranial bones, facial structures, jaw and teeth in an undesirable position. Carly works to correcting the reason teeth become crooked to begin with and why faces and airways grow narrow and jaws retrude. Her work helps to provide long-term orthodontic retention. The under used facial muscles, can become slack and interfere with proper oral-facial function, stability, breathing and airway constriction. Every case is different, and some cases are treated much faster than others. Carly’s specific education in Cranial Nerves is unique to all others in her field. Her main goal is helping the body gain maximum Oxygen to the brain so we have the greatest potential for all.
Three years ago, Carly completed a 2 year Practicum in Cranial Nerve Integration, Neurosequencing and Brain Mapping with Lois Laynee's Restorative Breathing Institute and she uses this knowledge daily in her work with reflex behaviors. She is trained in both levels of Masgutova Orofacial Reflex Integration as well as the Dynamic and Postural Reflex Integration. Carly is a graduate of the ALF Educational Institute and studied for her Masters Degree in Acupuncture at Pacific College of Acupuncture. For the last 15 years she has been continuing her education on Microcurrent Acupuncture and owns an Acutron. This device has brought much relief to many of her patients and is an asset to her practice. She worked for Johnson and Johnson for 7 years where she taught in dental schools and brought all of the cutting edge products and research to the dental world. Carly worked with Zila Pharmaceuticals where she was their authority in Oral Cancer and published an article on this subject. Carly’s private practice has been busy from the first year she opened so she has seen thousands of cases. Carly also offers Ozone Therapy to treat a variety of issues including gum disease.
